Corner View ~ Traditions

One of the Christmas traditions that I carry on from my childhood is  gifting my children a new ornament every year. When they grow up and leave the nest they will have ornaments to decorate their own tree. This makes me sad to know one day the ornaments that adorned the tree all these Christmas's will not be on the tree and the children will be on their own. but such is life.

I upgraded these Dollar Store stars with initials made of wire and beads. These are for my nieces and nephews, I have many of them I just photographed a few ornaments. Children will grow out of clothes and toys but hopefully these keepsakes will bring joy each year as they are pulled out to put on the tree.

A close up of the initial and bead work. I was drawn to the metallic hues and ornate cutouts, they jingle nicely too.

Here are our ornaments ready for the tree, which we still haven't gotten around to decorating yet. The peace sign was fun and easy to make out of wire craft branches. There are so many traditions and yet so little time at the moment that I shared with you a small one. What are some of your traditions?

Corner View ~ Overgrown

How delighted am I that my neighbors blackberrie bush is overgrown beyond it's boundaries and flows into my yard. We pick them in early morning for smoothies & yoghurt.

Corner View ~ Routine

I have to admit since the kids have been out of school I've fallen out of routine. No need to bus around kids to and from school has me inconsistent about the flow of the day. Hot lazy and unbearable heat is also to blame. Great that today's corner view post is routine because this is the day that I finally fallen back into mine.

About 2 weeks ago I had gotten ill and was able to only lay in bed fevered for a week. Not doing my usual routine of getting up early, exercising and making proper nutritious meals to nourish myself are probably part of the culprit. I was out of balance and out of touch.

This very morning was the 180. I got up at 4:00 a.m. with a fresh perspective on life in general and the directions I want to go. Blame it on my gypsy soul to want to travel and endeavour and I feel that pull so much more these days. So far this morning I had ginger lemon tea instead of coffee and I got my workout done. Next up is house cleaning, meal prep, a well over due trip to the library with the kids, and hopefully a day of inspirations to lead me into the new. Routines are essential for flow and balance, and when  aligned your light illuminates and the world becomes brighter off your spark.

Corner View ~ Monochrome

La Bahia Apartments on 215 Beach Street, Santa Cruz, C.A. This historic mission style building built in  1926 is going to be demolished except the bell tower, to become a posh hotel. I will truly miss this nostalgic gem. Demolition hasn't started yet so on my next trip I must take more in depth photo's to have for posterity.

Corner View ~ Meeting & Parting

There has been so much meeting & parting this week that I woke up knowing it was Wednesday but had no idea what the prompt was. The end of the school year is full of being here there and everywhere. {S} will be a high school sophomore, {E} will be entering  Jr. High, {L} will be in 5th grade, and {M} will be a kindergartner. Just a little update on the kiddos.

A strong foundation is necessary for branches to grow and thrive no matter what direction they may be in. This also goes for Wednesday's and Corner View. Although I sometimes do not have a posting and am guilty of mostly only visiting on Wednesday's I do enjoy and look forward to glimpsing onto the live's of our global community. May the rest of your week be blessed!

P.S. This art hangs in my living room (artist unknown) I purchased it at The Goodwill for $ 2.99

Corner View ~ Bright

When darkness is illuminated and brought into the light the transformation can be bright. So how about the future, what may we change this Earth Day to continue to nurture our universal mother?

Corner View ~ Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time a women sat on her back porch drinking coffee and soaking up early morning sun. She peered across her vast landscape and dreamt of a garden. A garden which would bring her great serenity and nourishment. The plot seemed desolate and void of growth as if the only blooming would occur inside the daydream.

Actions speak louder than words and images the mind creates. February brought with it Spring in Northern California, no time to waste, the work needed to produce the daydream must commence.  When the hard work to create is done you must have heavy doses of patience.

What was an "Once upon a time" thought over warm coffee and early morning pondering, became the stuff my dreams are made of. I finally got my little white picket fence too! As of this morning my tomato plants have tiny green orbs and I can't wait to take that first juicy bite  ripe off the vine.

Corner View ~ Imagination

im.ag.i.na.tion

action of forming new ideas, the ability of the mind to be creative & resourceful

I racked my brain trying to imagine what my post for imagination would be. Every time without fail John Lennon sang to me. I deeply resonate with this message for when I hear this song tears come. In our generations that span from the past to the future, wiser words could not be sung to the hearts of humanity, a battle cry for unity and universal love .

Corner View ~ Twinkle

Twinkle twinkle little star. Did you know that the star of Bethlehem the three wise men followed was actually the planet Jupiter? Yesterday we celebrated Dia de los Tres Reyes Magos, which celebrates the three wise men's arrival to greet and gift the baby Jesus. It's also Mexican tradition for children to open their gifts from under the tree on this day, we however open them on Dec. 25th.

The celebration was held at my husband's Abuelita's. There's ton of family and conversation. Cutting the Rosca and eating tamales are part of the festivities. Bite into your piece of Rosca carefully because you might be one of the lucky to get " el nino" in your slice.

{M} some how ended up with a huge slice, but did not get a baby. {L} on the other hand did. If you receive a baby then you host a "Tamalada" at your house on February 2nd which is Candlemas and the end of our Christmas time celebrations. My Tia's children got the most babies from the Rosca so the party is at her house. Everyone who got a baby must help and prepare food for the family function.

As I was warming my bones around the fire pit last night I thought I caught a glimpse of La Befana flying across the moon. Thanks for visiting my corner of the world and our cultural traditions. For more twinkle corner viewing stop by Francesca's.

Corner View ~ One Color

One of my favorite places to visit in my beautiful city is Old Sacramento. The atmosphere really takes you back into a place and time of  the pioneering old west. These photos were taken in October during my husband and mine 12 year anniversary date. We both grew up in Sacramento and are lucky to be a 10 minute drive away from such historic landmarks. The buildings are bathed in purple to show pride for our "Sacramento Kings" basketball team.

A spectacular Theatre of Lights event is held every year during the holiday season up till New Year's. It truly is a magical retelling of Clemente Clark Moore's "Twas the night before Christmas". We have attended a few of these shows over the years with the kids and I have to say that it brings adults into a childlike wonder bliss state of mind.

Here in the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow. I would like to wish all of my friends from around the world a blessing of happiness, love, and togetherness.  I'm grateful
you visit my corner of the world. Visit Fuoriborgo for more Corner Viewing.

Corner View - One Book

One of my favorite books as a child and one I love to share with my children.
"The Giving Tree" displays a give and take cycle in one's life span. If you have not yet read this book I highly recommend it, and share it with the little ones in your life.

Haunted Humpday * Corner View ~ Tradition

Halloween is almost here, the excitement around here is palatable. This is our last Haunted Humpday and I would like to thank Marfi for hosting the festivities and getting us all in the spirit since September. I got to choose the theme for corner view this week and tradition came to mind. Stop by  Francesca's and enjoy tradition from around the globe.

October is full of traditions, birthdays, anniversary, and Hallow festivities for my family. A trip to the pumpkin patch is a must. This year we enjoyed a free festival put on by a church.

 My pumpkins with their pumpkins.

One last trip to the Drive-Inn before it's too chilly. We watched "The Book of Life", a great movie displaying Mexican culture and Dia de los Muertos celebrations.

True children of the corn!

We love to decorate our front porch. This year a few basics were displayed, I seem to have displaced a mass majority of our Halloween decor.

The mummy managed to re-emerge just in time.

Even my dogson Chico get's into the Halloween spirit.

The pumpkins have been brought inside because somebody smashed a few of ours in the street last night. Tonight we will have a pumpkin carving party. We watch a fun Halloween movie or two depending on how long it takes while we carve. Treats and laughter are apart of this tradition.

Nov. 1st and 2nd we celebrate Dia de los Muertos. I don't have an ofrenda up this year but might throw something together to share with you. We will be visiting the graveyard to celebrate our ancestors.

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our Halloween traditions. Best wishes for a Spooktacular fun filled Halloween.
