Calaca Love

As my witchy cinnamon broom above my front door suggest welcome to my contribution to Marfi-topia's Haunted Humpday. I've been dying to display and show off the skully jewelry I've been creating. The earring set is part of the purple skull set. I already posted these Frida inspired box top heads in a previous post but this is all about calaca love so I wanted to share them again. Fall is pressumed to be the settle down cozy time but around here my schedule has taken on many new tasks. Can I get a hip hip huzzah, I was hired at a magical Artisan Fantasy Portrait Shop inside the Texas Renaissance Festival!

Make No Bones About It

Art from my Llywellyn's Witches Calender

Now that I got your attention with a straight forward quote "Happy Humpday & October". How is this month treating your skeleton so far? The mornings here in the valley are chilly with warm afternoons and then crisp evenings. It is still to soon to pack away the summer wares which is also making the Halloween transitioning so hard, I like to move things out before moving things in and rearranging. Later today I'm taking the decorations out of storage and getting prepped to decorate. I have a few skeletons lying around to show you, and hopefully next week I'll have more to show.

I bought this piece at Ross last year and love the vintage washed look. I have it hung over the dining table in the living room {I threw out my couches that were so dingy one day and haven't replaced them so I put the table in there}. The art hangs on the wall throughout Thanksgiving as a reminder to be thankful to our ancestors who have provided instinct and culture in our lineage and have since past over.

One of the many projects I have my fingers on are these guys & gals. I used nail glue and nail jewels to add some sparkle to those desolate eye sockets. They may have whole outfits or just some Dia de Los Muertos flare. These skeletons come in a garland of four at the Dollar Tree.

Heart jewels upside down make the perfect nose. This one has stars in his eyes and a gleam in his smile. Maybe it's those lovely set of hips near the fruit bowl that has his bones rattling.

This season can be hectic so try not to become a basket case and lose your head. Whether it be pure Autumnal fun, Witchy, or scary Halloween bliss, enjoy what the season holds and remember magic is all around when your eyes and heart are open!

Haunted Humpday Has Returned

As the title expresses Haunted Humpday has returned, actually it started a week ago and I feel a little like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date". For those new to Haunted Humpday it is an every Wednesday up to Halloween post about Halloween goodness and haunting tales. I usually don't have a ghostly story in my post but our hostess with the mostest Marfi of Incipient Wings always has a tale to chill your bones. So without further ado....

Every year I go with the flow when decorating for Halloween and this year I have a strong urge to do a lot of Dia de los Muertos flair. This giant calavera is displayed at a dart balloon game booth on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the prize is a colorful skeleton...I must get one. Were going to the boardwalks 150th birthday celebration, there will be fireworks and fun!

I picked this book up on my latest thrift store trip. Everyday Grace seems to be the kind of book to take notes along with hence the notebook or perhaps will turn onto a few post, I just opened it yesterday. The feathers I collect everyday from my yard,  I give thanks and gratitude from my feathered allies for gifting them to me. The tiny pumpkin is actually aged rosehip from my roses.

I'm in love with these witch hat earrings I made. I found a bag of six hats on discount at Michaels and was going to use them as adornments for mini besoms but they did not hang correctly but they fit perfectly on hooks. This was going to be an Etsy item but I decided against opening an Etsy shop after much mental debate and financial calculations.

I actually made a physical sign for the online shop as a banner photo. Perhaps one day I will have a craft booth and then I can hang my sign an lure people to my goods and wares.

Some more handicrafts I finally finished. The sachet is filled with lavender harvested from my yard. I come to realize cross stitching takes  quite a bit of time to complete a whole project, so I will probably resume it once the weather is cold and there is less outdoor work to be done. I'm off now to plan my Mabon celebration which I always seem to due last minute.
Happy Haunted Humpday!

Casa Sol y Luna has been buzzing with excitement as each new decoration, monster, and things that go bump in the night are put into place. The clock is ticking and the numbers fly off the calender as Halloween creeps upon us. When it comes to decorating for Halloween I usually have the inside of the house and front porch done but this year {M} is having a Halloween bash for his 5th birthday so the back yard has been transformed.  We have snuck in some time to enjoy two new spooky releases.

Haunted Humpday Throw Back ~ The Tragedy's of Dyer Lane

I was so excited to post some of my Halloween crafts I've been creating with you all on this Humpday...and then I realized my husband took the only charger that connects my phone to the lap top with him to work! I will post my projects as they are completed throughout the weeks and next H.H. I will reveal my yard {which is still a work in progress}. So without further ado I will pull from the vault " The Tragedy's of Dyer Lane ". Sorry for the extra click, mercury retrograde has not left me alone yet ......sigh.

Insane In The Membrane { H.H }

The time has come that my darling daughters no longer wish to be cute or sweet things for Halloween. Oh {L} does look so innocent in her lovely dress but wait is that an ax? Something sinister must be going on in the mind of young Lizzie Borden.

I acquired my last costume accessory for only $3.00 this weekend." Oh I look super fly", no really I feel like a fly with these ginormous Joplin glasses.

{E} was testing out her make-up skills for yet another Zombie. Her shirt says "Zombies eat Brains, don't worry you'er safe." I bought fake spray blood to gore up the costumes. A shame to mess up the lace dress , but we got to do it!

In a little more than a week Magaly's Witches In Fiction event will commence. I hope you stop back by to see what I have in store, and visit the other participants as well.

Happy Haunted Humpday filled with extra spice for the weeks to come.

From Shells to Skulls { H.H }

Happy Fall Yall. The wheel has turned yet again when darkness slowly takes over light. I hope everyone had a blissful Summer full of activities and some nature filled getaways. I sure did have an adventurous Summer with many escapes to my favorite seaside city's in Sunny California. As I write this I'm sitting in the kitchen with a fan blowing, and I'm still in tank tops and shorts! I got a few fall pieces recently from the Goodwill (another post) that I'm patiently waiting to be able to wear.

So the season has shifted and so is my decor. The shells, sand, and coastal hues are being tucked away in favor of black, orange, purple, and greens. My mind shift towards Halloween started early due to Ms Misantropia hosting a Fall Swap and me being the recipient of  Magaly Guerrero. Thanks also to Marfi for hosting Haunted Humpday.

Inside my box was these Halloween goodies. I could smell the soap right away. So I set about decorating a little early, shall we see more?

Cakes were made on Monday for Mabon. See anything on the menu you like? The Dollar store has an array of signs for inside and outdoors.

Look out Chico! These spiders are truly creepy, their made of metal and at night time they cast shadows as if they are slowly creeping. The skull print was also bought at Ross.

Another Dollar store find. These would cool for soap, candle, and sugar skull making.

I hope you all enjoy the Autumnal Equinox. I'm of to chop wood and carry water.

A Sprinkling of Haunted Humpday

The time has momentously arrived again to participate in Haunted Humpday hosted by the Queen of Halloween Marfi. Join us every Wednesday for a dose Halloween delights.

A lot of my friends in the blogosphere have already started decorating their abodes and crafting up some goodies, I prefer to start on Mabon/Autumnal Equinox as part of the celebration. I just learned there may be rats in my storage, so during the thorough clean out I will retrieve my hallowed possessions. Last time I cleaned it out I got rid of a lot of stuff so I see myself crafting and thrifting to get my Beach Bungalow transitioned to the Witches Cottage. Well it is a traditional witches home no matter the decor or season (wink).

I have been collecting seeds from my crops and flowers and discovered dried Snapdragon pods look a lot like little skelly heads.

Speaking of heads this little guy is filled with lavender flowers and stitched out of material from a summer crop top. The girls were fighting over who was getting to use him so I must make more. He went to {E} who gets frequent headaches.

The first store around my area to have any decor was Michaels Craft Store. By now Halloween is up in most places. I took a photo of this apothecary set up so I can create something similar down the road.

I wanted to buy tons of the vases and fill them around my house but I only had enough for one jar and these sticker labels for the apothecary bottles.

So I acquired these goodies at the Dollar Store. Flowers for a bouquet, a card to accompany, and the pumpkins to replace my shell collection on the t.v. stand.

I love this mix of colors, and how the whole project turned out. Created for an Autumn Swap this bouquet was sent off, but I shall make more!

It was a cold and slightly rainy Monday night . As the husband watched football in the living room,  the kiddos curled up in my bed and we watched The Monster Squad. I went to make popcorn and discovered little wiggles in the jar...ewww. Seems as though creatures are also trying to live in my domain. Next Wednesday is the official start to Fall are you ready?

P.S.  For all my fellow Mexicans
Feliz Dia de la Independencia!
