Corner View ~ Twinkle

Twinkle twinkle little star. Did you know that the star of Bethlehem the three wise men followed was actually the planet Jupiter? Yesterday we celebrated Dia de los Tres Reyes Magos, which celebrates the three wise men's arrival to greet and gift the baby Jesus. It's also Mexican tradition for children to open their gifts from under the tree on this day, we however open them on Dec. 25th.

The celebration was held at my husband's Abuelita's. There's ton of family and conversation. Cutting the Rosca and eating tamales are part of the festivities. Bite into your piece of Rosca carefully because you might be one of the lucky to get " el nino" in your slice.

{M} some how ended up with a huge slice, but did not get a baby. {L} on the other hand did. If you receive a baby then you host a "Tamalada" at your house on February 2nd which is Candlemas and the end of our Christmas time celebrations. My Tia's children got the most babies from the Rosca so the party is at her house. Everyone who got a baby must help and prepare food for the family function.

As I was warming my bones around the fire pit last night I thought I caught a glimpse of La Befana flying across the moon. Thanks for visiting my corner of the world and our cultural traditions. For more twinkle corner viewing stop by Francesca's.
