Rico's Rescue

3 years ago today we welcomed Rico into our hearts & home. Below is Rico's original rescue story.

The search for a new fur baby was sparked by the kind heart of a local realtor paying for all adoption fees for the animals at the Front St. Animal Shelter. One rainy Saturday we piled everyone into the truck and headed Downtown. We were not the only family looking and did not find the right dog there. We tried three more shelters around town and still ended going home empty handed. Maybe it wasn't meant to be.

A few weeks went by and another rain day came. The Renaissance man ended up staying home from work so we went  to the mall to do some shopping and decided over holiday coffee to give the Front St Shelter another look. Still no luck in finding a pooch. After picking up the little's from school we decided to go check out  Bradshaw Animal Shelter.

We looked at many dogs, and this is very hard because when you walk by them they give you sad eyes when you walk away. A curious dog looked out the window and his tail started wagging as my son pressed his face against the window. As my daughter walked by  he followed her gaze looking back and forth between the children. As a prospective match there is a room in which you go into  with the dog to bond and see his temperament.

Once out of his room the dog became timid and shy. Walking near him he was nervous around  shoes and fast movements, this guy had it rough before and his previous owner wasn't so kind. Was I willing to take a skittish stray with an unknown past home? I debated and even after finding out he was on meds for kennel cough we made the decision to open our hearts and home.

We made the dangerous rainy drive home without incident and the dog fell asleep in my daughters arms. Once we got home it was time to see how Chico would receive another dog into the home. One of my fears of bringing a new dog home was the fact that we had presents around a tree inside. First thing that dog does is pee on the tree and a few packages had to be rewrapped. Thank goodness that was the one and only time. We named our new dog Rico. Yes that's Chico & Rico.

Now the story takes a twist and Rico almost goes back to the shelter the next day.

Being fresh out of the shelter Rico smelled foul. Giving the dog a full bath wasn't possible because he was recently neutered. So we purchased wipes and a coat spray. No matter what we did the dog smelled like skunk. That night there was barely any sleep and it was determined he needed to be returned because the smell wasn't bearable. I dreaded the next morning. It was hard for me to face the children and let them know we couldn't keep him. The shelter didn't open till 12:30 p.m which was probably his saving grace. A trot outside resulted in the dogs finally playing and Rico taking a pent up poo.

After play and relieving himself he didn't smell as bad. Further research lead me to the knowledge that Cairn Terriers have oily coats and when it gets clogged and trapped in it's coarse hair it smells. I just couldn't go through returning him, we bonded that afternoon. When everybody came home from school  they were ecstatic that my heart wouldn't allow him to go back. It's been a week now since Rico is a part of the family and he's turned out to be a pretty awesome dog. Our Christmas wish was answered and I believe his was too.

Day 3

P.S.A. this is not new year new me b*******. Do not give me any alcohol this holiday season, I am done with all that.  Many of my friends and family out there are probably like" yeah right she doesn't mean it she's been down this road before". Remember that time 2 years ago when I was just five days from 5 years sober and then I went and f***** it up.  Life is great , and I am good , but I want to be better than that , I want to be amazing beyond what I have accomplished thus far!  This is truly necessary for my soul mission & spirit work . Cheers to all of us who are moving forward on our  journeys to our higher self's.

Autumn's Song

There's a warbling melody towards the West in the pines of the hill as the sun rises in the East. Light dusky blue takes over the shadow of cobalt held by the moon and stars. Farmlands awaken with  earthsong of every animal greeting the new day.  Wildflowers lift there sleepy heads to say hello as the morning commences.

Turkey vultures sit in the Raven Wood holding court before heading out to feed and do damage control. Scratchury of claws on bark, scurrying to the ground to prepare for Winter's icy grasp, squirrels march about. Sitting on the porch outside... looking in as a new day breaks and opportunities open.

P.S. I'm feeling the extra sacredness of Autumn mornings, what is your favorite sacred morning ritual? If you greet the morning it will rise to greet you.

October Musings

Ahhh October you barely arrived and is as equally swift at flying into November. This month has been busy Y'all ! October has always been a collaborative of birthdays, anniversary and general holiday merriment.

Last week the Hubby and I celebrated our 17 yr wedding anniversary. We went to a local Italian Dive in Magnolia called Pizzaiolo's. I had this big Mango Margarita with a spinach mushroom calzone. The Man had a philly cheese steak.

On the crafting front, I've been mostly making garb accessories for myself to wear to work at The Texas Renaissance Festival. I do sales at a Fantasy Photography shop 322 called Whimsys Muse. If you happen to be at the festival stop by and say hello.

Weekend 3's theme was Pirates. I took a cue from my favorite Rum soaked pirate Jack sparrow and created some hair trinkets. This was a crafting project I really enjoyed and might add to my Gypsy Spirit Rising creations.

A quick headshot before heading out the door. The accessories stayed in place under my former beach sun hat converted into a tricorn. Did I mention I love dressing up! Me thinks this is also my Halloween getup.

As the month is winding down we have a 9th Birthday coming up for {M} celebrated on Halloween with a Monster Mash Birthday Bash. So much more but I wanted to share a few tidbits with y'all on the blogosphere.

🦇 Many Spooky Blessings in your Hallow Endeavors 🎃

Oopps I Done It Again

I played with my blog layout because I didn't like the massive size the photos were in posts and other quirks. I forgot to download a copy of my layout and had to start from scratch. Apology's if you have stopped by for a visit and things were out of whack. So I have scrambled hastily to get back together my  list of blogs I follow. Please be dears and leave your link back in comments so I can add you back to the sidebar. Okay frustration rant over for now. Here's an Autumn photo to enjoy for stopping in.

Fall has arrived in H.E.B. Magnolia

The Color of Change

We have grown tired of looking at oatmeal colored walls streaked with hand prints and such other marks left behind which could not be scrubbed off. A weekend date to The Home Depot (when me and the Hubby run errands :) resulted in the purchase of Glidden Blue Forest. Elated to renovate and refresh our space we knocked it out the next day. But then...........

I got depressed. The rooms were so much darker and depending on the time of day really dungeon-ess . The Hubby loved it, it's a very masculine color and I'm used to light bright and beachy. Perusing Pinterest and a trip to the Thrift Stores was the remedy to my mental dilemma.

Enter the Zen Zone. A peaceful, tranquil space in which I unwind  and find space to join my mat and immerse myself back into yoga again. Without change we cannot transition, ain't that the truth! So you can say the Blue Forest is growing on me. We still have our bedroom and bathroom coastal to escape to. I'm in love with the coral orange accents throughout the room, very Autumnal. Look out for my Hallowed Home update soon.

Speaking of weather, Imelda dropped a wrath load of rain upon us. By some miraculous looping of the storm we escaped mass flooding. Many counties around us are putting back the pieces again. We had moved here in 2017 right after Hurricane Harvey had hit and yet here we are in Texas enduring everything this bipolar weather brings. I can honestly say most Texans have hearts as big as there state. How's the weather in your corner of the globe? Calender says October but its still hot as hell over here.

Back From Hiatus

Hello everyone I'm back from an unintended blogging hiatus. Summer had some adventures, school is back in session and my season of work outside of the home is upon me. That being said I will be time traveling in time with my posts sharing current happenings and memories. I have acquired new followers in my absence and would like to ask a favor of you. Could you please leave a comment and link back to your site so I can follow back. The interface on blogger follow has changed and I can no longer click on your  pic to direct me to your online space. Thanks in advance!  I look forward to all October has to offer and hope to visit and catch up with everyone soon, until then be at peace in life's current flow.

Mid August Folly

To a Visitor it would seem
Autumn has made her arrival
A true mask of deception

Crisp russet yellowed leaves
Litter the expanse of the lawn
Mixed with needles of fir & cones of pine

Blue sky is a dusky cloud
Dry Saharan dust
An illusion of overcast cooler breezes

100 heat dissipates the mosquitos
No longer being a meal as I venture out
Delights me so

Tis this Texas Summer without rain!

Houston's Graffiti Park

This post is a long time overdue. I initially wanted to post these photos with the respected artist credit under each piece but cannot find the time to do so. We visited Houston's Graffiti park on St. Patrick's Day 2019 on a mission to do a Sweet 16 photo shoot for our daughter. Photo shoots of all types, Quinces, graduation and even videos were being shot there.

If you would like to experience this outdoor art gallery for yourself it's located at
2102 Leeland St, Houston, TX 77003.

P.S. If you use any of these photos in your content please give credit to Gypsy Spirit Rising, and a link back  would be appreciated.
